6 Tips On How To Winterize Your Hair

Beauty tip: Holidays are now over and a little downtime is just what you need. A botanical therapy or shine treatment will leave your hair feeling soft, silky and shiny during the Winter months! We have a few tips on how to Winterize your hair to combat dullness and dryness.

Why wouldn’t you winterize your hair and skin routine?  You “winterize” your wardrobe in the colder months, don’t you? Dryness during Winter months means a lack of moisture which leaves your hair and skin feeling drier than normal.

If your trusty summer and fall hair care isn’t working quite as well come winter, here’s 6 tips on how to winterize your routine – courtesy of our Education Manager for Styling, Kathryn Hamernik. Your hair will thank you!

6 Tips On How To Winterize Your Hair

1: First things first… It may be time to switch up your go-to shampoo and conditioner. If you’ve noticed dullness and dryness, opt for something with more moisture. You may find that lack of moisture is your primary concern in the winter, which is totally normal. Try Dry Remedy shampoo and conditioner for intensely dry hair or Aveda’s Cherry Almond Softening Shampoo and Conditioner for normal to dry hair.

The transition from fall to winter is the best time to start using a leave-in conditioner if you aren’t already. We love Damage Remedy Daily Hair Repair, which helps maintain your moisture level and reduces any static in your hair.

2: Speaking of static… Is your hair sprouting more static and fly-aways than usual? We have just the thing to help fight frizz and static! Our go-to products are Aveda’s Light Elements Smoothing Fluid for wintertime frizzies plus it gives extra shine too.

Another pro tip we love? Use Air Control hairspray for both staticky hair AND clothing. To be really precise with the application, spray it on a tissue and wipe it down the surface of your hair, or spray a small amount on your clothes where you’re experiencing pesky clinginess.

3: Feeling super dry?  Everyone needs a bottle of Dry Remedy Daily Moisturizing Oil. You can use it to touch up during the day too. What we love is that the oil doesn’t sit on the surface of your hair, but actually gets INSIDE the hair to nourish all day long. You’ll get the beautiful aroma of Dry Remedy plus shine and moisture.

4: Got hat hair? Don’t let flat, lifeless hat hair keep you from staying warm with a cute beanie this winter. Use Shampure Dry Shampoo at the root to bring back the body once you’ve arrived at your destination and ditched the hat.

5: Make a date with a masque. Come wintertime, hair masques are always a must, and should be integrated into your routine once a week if not more. Pick something with extra moisture, like the Dry Remedy masque, and use as directed whenever your hair is feeling parched. If you’re someone who shampoos on a daily basis, you can use a masque up to three times a week just to give your hair an added dose of moisture.

6: Got dry, flaky scalp?  Winter’s chill can exacerbate dry, itchy, uncomfortable scalps. To fight it, the first thing you want to do is remove what’s already there. Work the surface of your scalp in gentle, circular motions, and help lift up the debris that your hair traps close to your scalp. After you’ve exfoliated, follow with the Aveda’s Pramasana scalp cleansing line and say bye to your winter woes!
